Why do feet itch?

A medical term used for itching is “pruritus”. It is a feeling of tickling or distracting irritation. It can be on whole of the body or on a particular area. Most of us start scratching the area of itching but some can tolerate it to certain level. Itching is more if there are some distractions and skin is slightly warm than the normal. That is why more itching is felt during night. The sensation of itching may be felt in most of the skin diseases. If itching is caused due to stress or emotional reason then it is called as psychogenic itching.

The most common causes for the foot itching are:-

ATHLETE FOOT
It is a type of fungus that causes the feet to itch moreover it causes redness on particular area and make your feet feel like burning. Excessive sweating and heat by wearing improper or not comfortable shoes can also lead to athlete foot which is also called feet ringworm. Scratching the affected area may cause break in skin and the other athlete foot can appear at the nearby area. To avoid this use anti-fungal creams and try to keep your feet clean by washing, keeping it dry while wearing the shoes and change the socks at least once a day and also anti-bacterial soaps can be used if the symptoms don’t reduce by this. You must consult a doctor for it.

DRY SKIN
Dry skin causes your feet to itch. It produces red or flaky patches on the heel and soles of your feet. To deal with this problem therapeutic ointments for cracked skin should be used and creams, lotions with alcohol content should be avoided which can cause more dryness. Use moisturizer and wear socks overnight moreover try to wear comfortable foot wears.

Foot rash: – it is an eruption on the foot skin.

Contact dermatitis:- it causes when skin reacts with some irritant.

Feet may also itch because of certain drugs reaction, eczema, psoriasis, or contact with anything allergic etc.
